Abstract

In the last two decades, the science diplomacy issue has been growing in importance in the region due to the attempts to deepen integration processes and to the reforms carried out in the field of science and education. The “old” regional science diplomacy institutions are being “revamped”. New initiatives are coming up helping to strengthen the Global South in science diplomacy. At the same time, a number of structural and systemic problems remain related to insufficient investment and budgeting in this area, the existence of parallel structures, poor experience in interaction between scientists and politicians, and a lag in understanding the concept of “science diplomacy”. In order to widen Latin American place in science diplomacy, some important steps should be taken. First of all, it means to have more educational programs on modern diplomacy at universities, attract and get interested young specialists, reform the outdated structures of public administration. © (2024), (Iberoamerica (Russian Federation)).
