Abstract: | This study, the effect of constitutional supercooling appearing ahead of the crystallization front and leading to the mushy layer origination is considered. An approximate analytical theory determining the time of mushy layer initiation is constructed. Theoretical predictions are in good agreement with numerical simulations carried out in previous studies. © 2023, The Author(s). |
