Sociologist: The history of the professional standard

Abstract

The paper is devoted to the history of the national professional standard “Sociologist: specialist in fundamental and applied studies”. Rethinking the sociologist qualification skills by the professional community is the focus of the paper. The author analyzes discussions of the quality criteria for the research process and its results from the period of 1970–1980s up until now. The study also considers the reasons why the quality issue has transformed from the methodological discourse into regulatory and legal. The article will be useful for the heads and experts working in research companies, professors and students in the field of sociology, economy or human sciences, designers of the Federal Educational Standard “Sociologist”, and clients of marketing research companies. © 2019 Russian Public Opinion Research Center, VCIOM.
