Abstract: The results from studying the nanostructural states formed upon ion irradiation in subsurface volumes of pure metals (Pt) are presented. The formation of a nanocrystalline structure with block sizes of 1-5 nm are observed at a distance of no less than 20 nm from the irradiated surface. It is shown that block boundaries have low-angle misorientations of less than 6° ± 2°. © 2012 Allerton Press, Inc.
