Abstract:	In the first part of the article the author investigates general problems of definition of the status of the Lakedaimonion perioikoi, a terminology having any relation to this social group, the questions on the origin of perioikoi, economy and social stratification in their communities. The second part will be published in the next volume of «Issedon».
