Геоинформационная аналитическая система «Топонимия Заонежья»

Abstract

The paper describes the main parameters of the geographical information and analytical system “Zaonezhje toponymy”, developed at the Institute of Language, Literature and History. It comprises the database where about 10,000 place names from the Zaonezhje Peninsula can be stored and searched by 20 parameters, as well as the digital cartographic base for mapping and cartographic analysis of the place names. The focus in the paper is on the analytical component of the project. We demonstrate the capacities of the system in the reconstruction of lost words (geographical terms) and restoration of the historical and cultural processes that had taken place in Zaonezhje in the past millennium.
