Инструментарий и смысл «авторских переводов» в «Res gestae» Аммиана Марцеллина

Abstract

На основе анализа греческой лексики, элементов греческой фонетики и морфологии, интерполированных в латинский текст крупнейшего исторического труда поздней Античности, Res Gestae Аммиана Марцеллина, определяются смысл и свойства этой лексики как своеобразного авторского перевода. Доказывается, что перевод этот был адресован образованной аудитории западной части Римской империи конца IV в. и являлся одной из попыток сохранения знания греческого языка в этих социальных стратах (как одно из средств консервации социокультурной обстановки классической империи). Показано, что ряд форм и методов такой попытки пережили Античность и перешли в культурную среду раннего Средневековья Западной Европы.

The article analyzes the largest historical work of late Antiquity in Latin – Res Gestae by Ammianus Marcellinus. In particular, the focus is put on the Greek vocabulary and elements of Greek phonetics and morphology interpolated into this text, thus seeking to determine the meaning and properties of this vocabulary as a kind of author’s translation. It is proved that this translation was addressed to the educated audience of the western part of the Roman Empire in the late 4th century, and it was one of the attempts to preserve the knowledge of the Greek language in those social strata (as one of the means of preserving the socio-cultural environment of the classical empire). The paper shows that a number of forms and methods of such an attempt survived Antiquity and passed into the West European cultural environment of the early Middle Ages.
