Translating the Trilogy “Lark Rise to Candleford” by F. Thompson: On the Problem of Rendering Chronotope Markers in Russian

Abstract

Целью данного исследования является изучение возможных трудностей при передаче маркеров пространства и времени в художественном переводе. Приведены и проанализированы фрагменты авторского перевода трилогии Ф. Томпсон “Lark Rise to Candleford” на русский язык. Сделаны выводы о трансформациях, к которым вынужденно прибегает переводчик, чтобы сохранить сигналы хронотопа в романе.

The purpose of this research is to study the possible difficulties when rendering markers of space and time in fiction translation. The authors’ translation of F. Thompson’s trilogy “Lark Rise to Candleford” is suggested and analyzed in fragments. There are made conclusions concerning the translator’s trnasformations used to save the chronotope signals in the novel text.
