Смертность военнопленных Первой мировой войны и современное состояние их захоронений на Урале

Abstract

Досліджено проблему смертності іноземних військовополонених на Уралі в роки Першої світової війни. Показано чисельність і розміщення військовополонених, умови їх утримання. На основі аналізу даних метричних книг виявлено причини і масштаби смертності іноземних військовополонених в окремих містах Уралу. Наводяться відомості про облаштування іноземних військових кладовищ в ті роки, а також їх стан у даний час.

Исследована проблема смертности иностранных военнопленных на Урале в годы Первой мировой войны. Показана численность и размещение военнопленных, условия их содержания. На основе анализа данных метрических книг выявлены причины и масштабы смертности иностранных военнопленных в отдельных городах Урала. Приводятся сведения об обустройстве иностранных воинских кладбищ в те годы, а также их состоянии в настоящее время.

Gegenstand der Forschung ist die Sterblichkeit ausländischer Kriegsgefangener im Ural während des Ersten Weltkrieges. Dargestellt werden die Zahl und die Unterbringung sowie die Haftbedingungen der Kriegsgefangenen. Auf Grund der Analyse von Sterberegistern werden die Gründe und die Ausmaße der Sterblichkeit der ausländischen Kriegsgefangenen in einzelnen Städten des Urals analysiert. Der Beitrag enthält Informationen über die Einrichtung ausländischer Soldatenfriedhöfe in jenen Jahren und über deren gegenwärtigen Zustand.

The article is devoted to the history of foreign prisoners of war on the territory of Russia during World War One (1914–1918). The author considers the topic, almost unstudied in modern historical literature: mortality of prisoners of war in Russian captivity (nearly 2-2,5 millions of soldiers and officers from countries of the Central powers were captured). The research is limited to Ural region, where 300 thousands of foreign prisoners of war from Austro-Hungarian, German and Turkish armies are located. The article gives information about quantity of prisoners of war in various Ural regions, their accommodation in special camps, private and social homes. The author described life conditions of the prisoners of war, namely: their housing conditions, subsistence, level of medical care, postal services. The reasons and scale of foreign prisoners of war mortality in separate cities of Ural are revealed on the base of analyzes of information from church registers. Fatal illness (typhus, pneumonia, scurvy), accidents, suicides took the lives of people, who found themselves in unaccustomed severe conditions of Russian captivity. The article also describes the further destiny of the belongings of the dead. The information about beautification of foreign cemeteries during war time is given, and their modern state is also described. Till the present day memorials to prisoners of war survived in Kirov, Orenburg, Sverdlovsk oblast. The activity of the Austrian organization «Black Cross», devoted to the commemoration of World War I prisoners of war, is also shown. The author stresses that the work of exposure, preservation and beautification of prisoners of war cemeteries should be continued both in Russia and abroad.
