К вопросу о субъектификации английских союзов (на примере союза as)

Abstract

The article is devoted to subjectification as a diachronic process whereby meanings tend to become increasingly situated in the speaker’s subjective belief state or attitude toward the proposition. As a result, these meanings are very abstract. This process is illustrated with reference to the English conjunction as and the development of its meanings. Examples are drawn from different sources and periods in the history of English. In the process of intersubjectification the highest degree of subjectivity is achieved, when the conjunction as is used to justify a speech act.
