Abstract

The article by S.B. Berezhnoy is devoted to the interpretation of categories of the dharmas theory of Sarvastivada, represented in the treatise "Abhidharmakosha" by a great Buddhist thinker Vasubandhu (IV-V centuries AD). Sarvastivada is a trend of early Buddhism that created its own system of ontology and gnoseology within the bounds of the Abhidharma philosophy. The Buddhist theory of dharmas represents a life of any living being as a stream of dharmas - ontological elements from which all the existence is made up. The main ontological principle of Sarvastivada is analyzed in the article, its philosophical motto - "Sarvam asti", stating that only dharmas are real. Basing upon his own reading of the Sanskrit text of the "Abhidharmakosha" treatise, the author gives a peculiar interpretation of the dharmas theory of Sarvastivada in whole.
