The article is devoted to philosophical and conceptual parallels between the creative method of the artist Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) and of Edmund Husserl (1859-1938), the founder of transcendental phenomenology. Both the artist and the philosopher belonged to the same historical period and culture of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Comparing their worldview and professional attitudes is therefore justified. The interpretation that is traditional for history of philosophy and art history and that views Klimt’s work in the context of Schopenhauer and Nietzsche’s philosophy, is complemented with relating Klimt’s imagery to transcendental phenomenology. |
