dc.description.abstract | The paper considers a number of Russian proper and substrate Finno-Ugrian place-names of the Arkhangelsk Pomorje region, coined on the basis of onomatopoetic words. The author qualifies this semantic type as highly productive and proceeds to proposing a number of new etymologies for substrate toponymic stems. The etymological studies are complemented by comments on the issues of ethnolinguistic distinctness, phonetic and morphological peculiarities of suchlike substrate Finno-Ugrian place-names. | en |
