Abstract: This work is dedicated to the problem of the oldest onomastics of Taurica peninsula and includes entire etymological analysis of local place names found in a given historical and cultural region of Bosporus Cimmericus. It is followed by ethnological and cultural interpretation. Dealing with old place and personal names the author makes linguistic attribution, gives probable etymology (where it seems to be necessary) to many local place- and personal names, examines relations between linguistic signs (names), their meanings, designates and society, which created those names. As a result of this study there appears a clear picture of migration and settlement of different ethnic groups in the Bosporus Cimmericus from the II millennium BC to the middle of the I millennium AD.
