Abstract:	The article is devoted to the investigation of vocabulary used in geographical denominations of Karelia. On the base of the etymological analysis of the Russian, Baltic Finnish and Saam languages the author develops the semantic typology of the terms used in nomination of the rivers’ rapids of Karelia.
