Ювенал: особенности выражения стоической антропологии в римской сатире

Abstract

When the last Roman satire’s classic was creating his anthropological division, he assigned “two types of people”. The first one is “few” (pauci). The type of valiant and virtuous people (virtus), who cultivate wisdom (sapientia) and reason (prudentia) in themselves. The original “nature” and humanity (humanitas) are contained in these qualities. The second type is opposite one. The type of those, who lost themselves in the fog of mistakes, as they had placed their individuals under the control of passions and vices. In some way it’s breed of “missing”. Peculiarity of its anthropology (comparing with other Roman satirists) is that Juvenalis described the types of people as a regress in time, in history. And that is why he insisted on applying maximum of moral efforts in “our time” to restore our natural integrity, original humanity.
