Царство Пресвитера Иоанна или оплот еретиков? Христианская Африка глазами венецианских интеллектуалов

Abstract

В статье рассматриваются образы христианской Нубии и Эфиопии в трудах венециан-ских авторов XIV–XV вв. На примере таких источников, как «Книга тайн верных креста» Марино Санудо и «Трактата о Святой Земле и о Востоке» Франческо Суриано, прослеживается эволюция представлений венецианцев об отдаленной части христианского Востока за указанный период. В работе сделаны акценты на амбивалентность портретов «черных христиан» на разных уровнях восприятия в венецианских источниках: географическом, культурном, религиозном, визуальном, а также на влияние текущих политических задач «Светлейшей» на конструирование в трудах ее сановников, путешественников и дипломатов образа христианской Африки.

The article observes the images of Christian Nubia and Ethiopia in the treatises, written by the Venetian authors of the 14th and 15th centuries. The research is based on such sources as Marino Sanudo the Elder’s «Book of the Faithful of the Cross» and Francesco Suriano’s «Treatise on the Holy Land», it traces the evolution of the Venetian imagery about the remote region of the Oriental Christianinty during the above-mentioned period. The author of the paper focuses on the ambivalence of the portraits of the «black Christians» on different levels of perception: geographical, cultural, religious and visual. This article also considers how the imagery of Christian Africa in the works of the Venetian dignitaries, travellers and diplomats was influenced by the current political objectives of the «Serenissima».
