Abstract:	The article is dedicated to one mysterious inscription from the lower defense wall of Mangoup-Kale in Crimea. Well known since a century it was bad dated by 1504 AD. The real date is 994-995 AD, that is confirmed by paleography and prosopography. Inscription from Mangoup is rare evidence of the Middle-Byzantine defense activity in the region, and also an important testimony of well known Tzoula family. This new reading provokes some question on the archaeology of Mangoup-Kale.
