Древнейшая ономастика Таврического полуострова: I. Сурожская земля

Abstract

This work is dedicated to the problem of the oldest onomastics of Taurica peninsula and includes entire etymological analysis of local place names found in a given historical and cultural region of Sugday. It is followed by ethnological and cultural interpretation. Dealing with old place and personal names the author makes linguistic attribution, gives probable etymology (where it seems to be necessary) to many local place- and personal names, examines relations between linguistic signs (names) and society created those names. As a result of this study a clear picture of migration and settlement of different ethnic groups in the land of Sugday from the middle of the IV millennium BC to the middle of the II millennium AD appears.
