Online “Course English for Scientists”: Students vs Artificial Intelligence

Abstract

This article presents the experience of developing an online course on English for specific purposes for students of medical and pharmaceutical specialties, and also describes an attempt to use the Perplexity ai neural network to perform tasks included in this course. The results obtained show that the students who mastered this course did not use AI, this is evidenced by the quality of creative assignments and the nature of grammar mistakes made. The types of tasks which the neural network copes with best and cases where it failed are analysed.
