Abstract

The article examines the potential for the development of natural gas in the world. The authors analyze the global gas market, its reserves, consumption volumes, as well as volumes of export and import supplies. The importance of this energy source is due to the fact that over the past decades, the role and importance of natural gas in the energy balance of the world economy has been constantly increasing, this is manifested in its high efficiency as an energy resource and raw material for industry, widespread use by power plants for generating electricity, in the chemical industry, as fuel in cars, as well as for domestic use for heating and cooking, as well as increased environmental friendliness compared to oil and coal.
